Who is a candidate for orthodontics evaluations?

Have your child evaluated at age 7 for orthodontics care or earlier if they have a concern before that age. Signs of potential problems include a protruding jaw, crowded teeth, difficulty biting or chewing, or finger or thumb sucking.

Dr. Morris evaluates your child’s teeth and bite, examines their mouth, and looks at the results of their dental X-rays to establish if or when they’re a candidate for orthodontics treatment.

Braces

Braces move crooked teeth into their ideal position using metal wires and brackets. Dr. Morris periodically tightens the braces until treatment is complete. Various colors and styles are available to choose from.

Fixed space maintainers

If your child loses their baby teeth too early, Dr. Morris can insert a fixed space maintainer to hold the open space for an underlying permanent tooth to erupt, preventing tooth crowding.

Palatal expanders

If you or your child has a narrow pallet in the upper jaw, Dr. Morris uses a palatal expander that sits on top of your upper jaw and places pressure on the palate to widen it. You can use a tiny key to tighten the expander daily for a specified period of time.

Rubber bands

Some patients with braces wear rubber bands to draw the bottom jaw forward. They can choose the color of rubber bands they desire. 

Retainers

After orthodontic treatment is complete, Dr. Morris creates a retainer to keep the teeth from shifting out of their new alignment.
