When is a Dental Crown or Bridge Used?

There are several different instances when a dental crown or bridge may be the solution to restoring your smile. First, if you have dental decay, Dr. Morris may remove the decay to prevent the decay from spreading. If the decay is large enough, she may recommend a dental crown because the cavity is too big to support a dental filling. In this case, Dr. Morris will shave down around the tooth and then place the crown on top of the tooth like a cap. Dental crowns are made of porcelain and are stain-resistant along with being durable.

Dr. Morris also makes dental crowns for patients with dental implants. Implant crowns look similar to traditional dental crowns. We place them on the top of the implant on the abutment. An implant crown is strong and can withstand everyday force, meaning you can eat the foods you like.

If you are missing one or more teeth in a row, Dr. Morris may recommend a dental bridge. A dental bridge appears similar to a dental crown. A dental bridge looks like multiple dental crowns attached in a row. The crowns on each bridge end attach over the adjacent teeth as a dental crown fits over a tooth. Then, the middle crowns create a bridge over the missing tooth. Using a dental bridge to replace one or more missing teeth in a row is a more affordable alternative to dental implants.

How are Crowns and Bridges Placed?

When we install a crown or a bridge, the first step is to take an impression of the affected area. Dr. Morris will send the image to a lab to construct the dental crown or bridge. While you wait for the lab to create the dental crown or bridge, Dr. Morris may give you a temporary crown or bridge. Once the appliance arrives at the dental office, Dr. Morris will place the crown or bridge. She will secure it and bond it to the tooth.

How are Implant Crowns Placed?

Many patients who get single dental implants want to restore their smile to look natural. Dr. Morris recommends that patients with singular dental implants receive an implant crown from Morris Dental Associates. Our team is friendly and knowledgeable and will answer all of your questions. An implant crown is placed similarly to a traditional crown. First, Dr. Morris will take an impression of your smile. Then, she will send the image to a lab to create the implant crown. Once the implant crown arrives at the dental office, Dr. Morris will attach the implant crown to the abutment of the dental implant. After the procedure, you will have a solid and beautiful tooth that you can love for a lifetime.

If you have tooth decay, a missing tooth, or a dental implant, Dr. Morris can help you restore your smile with a dental crown, bridge, or implant crown. Many of Dr. Morris’s patients visit Morris Dental Associates for an implant crown because of our expertise and friendly team.
